Collegium Musicum Dazzles Audiences With Verdis Messa da Requiem
The Collegium Musicum choir and orchestra of RWTH Aachen University ended the summer semester on a high note with their brilliant performance of Giuseppe Verdi's Messa da Requiem. The work of the romantic composer, who became known particularly for his operas, was an exciting challenge for the student musicians.
The Collegium Musicum choir and orchestra of RWTH Aachen University brought the summer semester to a brilliant conclusion with their performance of Giuseppe Verdi's Messa da Requiem. The Collegium ensembles were assisted by soloists from the Aachen campus of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. For mezzo-soprano Sissi Qi Wang, the premiere on July 13 was a special challenge, as the performance was part of her final academic work.
In two sold out concerts in the Aachener und Münchener Halle, the more than 1000 concert visitors were quite impressed with the performance. Qi Wang also proved her talent and received the best possible grade of 1.0 for her performance. The ambitious young conductor Julio G. Vico guided the choir and orchestra through the demanding piece in a passionate manner. In fact, the music seemed to have already become a part of him, enabling him to conduct the 90-minute performance completely by heart.
After the concert, Vico thanked the soloists Minyoung Kim (soprano), Sissi Qi Wang (mezzo-soprano), Soon-Wook Ka (tenor), Ang Du (bass). Special thanks went to Maximilian Friedrich, who led the choir's rehearsals last semester. Vico will continue as music director in the coming winter semester, since Friedrich is starting his career as a church musician and will have to leave the Collegium unfortunately. As in the previous semester, the choir concert will take place in the Krönungssaal of Aachen City Hall. We will provide more information about the program and upcoming concerts of the ensemble here as it becomes available.
All of us here at Collegium Musicum want to take this opportunity to thank our supporter Druckpreis.de as well as our audiences at both concerts
