Aachen and the RWTH
More information about working at the RWTH Aachen and living in Aachen or surroundings can be found here. Aachen is uniquely located at the border of three European countries: Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands. This means that within a circle of 10 km radius, at least three languages are spoken, German, Dutch, French in addition to the various local admixtures of these languages known as dialects.
Notwithstanding this Euregional environment, the technical university in Aachen is a solidly German university with courses being taught in German at the bachelor level. On the other hand, the RWTH is among the more international among German universities (see also the Excellence Initiative award in 2007). For example, in 2009 13% of the academic staff was non-German or international and in 2009 20% of the newly enrolled students at the RWTH Aachen were international students.
