Astroparticle Physics and Cosmology
Astroparticle physics deals with cosmic rays from space. Measurement of these particles allows us to study fundamental issues of cosmology and elementary particle physics. Examples are the search for dark matter and antimatter, probing the highest-energy cosmic rays and the measurement of neutrinos from outer space. All three Institutes for Experimental Particle Physics participate in leading international experiments on earth or space. The Theoretical Physics Institutes focus primarily on questions related to structure formation and the early universe.
